A Walk on The PierPosted by Richard Irwin (Belper, United Kingdom) on 16 October 2007 in Cityscape & Urban. This is pier in the town of Whitby. I enjoyed seeing the visitors brave the crashing waves spraying over them as they dashed along the windswept pier to the lighthouse at the end

DaveB from Exeter, United KingdomMagic shot, such a cool sky, but it doesn't dominate the shot. Well done! 16 Oct 2007 3:59pm amy from Rocky Mountain House, AB, CanadaLove the sky in this one Richard!! Gives it great scale with the tiny people on the pier. It's what I would call a "sweeping" image!! Bravo! 16 Oct 2007 4:13pm yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greecevery nice place - the capture is perfect - great work 16 Oct 2007 4:43pm Shahab from Qazvin, IranGreat work Richard!Nicely seprated by line between quiet & stormy sea!Good perspective too. 16 Oct 2007 5:02pm Sharon from Brooklyn, United StatesVery nice. Like the colors and how the waves are crashing against the one side. Looks like a cool place. 16 Oct 2007 8:13pm Manuela Photography from Hainburg, GermanyThis is so perfect Richard! Excellent. 16 Oct 2007 8:33pm Amir from IranAwesome shot at an awesome location. Location is very important in photography and you have chosen and right one for this. Love the color and extension of dock into water. 16 Oct 2007 8:44pm Bron from Canberra, AustraliaThis is magnificent Richard. Perfect. The shapes and textures are VERY nice 16 Oct 2007 9:31pm Rebecca from Leicester, United KingdomThis is indeed breathtaking, Richard. Wow! 16 Oct 2007 9:48pm Stunner from Kingston, JamaicaBeautiful scenery Richard! That pier is a massive structure! 16 Oct 2007 10:20pm Rags from Plano, United StatesGreat composition. It is nice that you added people in the image because it gives us a feeling of the massiveness of that place 17 Oct 2007 1:14am Nick Passantino from Bronx, United Stateswow what a difference between the two sides of the pier. nice capture 17 Oct 2007 3:44am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesIt doesn't look so big: until you notice those tiny shapes are people. I wonder if this location is the inspiration for the crashing waves shot in the recent Danny Boyle movie, "Sunshine." 17 Oct 2007 1:54pm @Twelvebit: Very interesting comment, I'll have to check it out. Those waves were going straight over the pier when I went to cross, it was quite scary, but a quick dash and you could avoid a soaking.....but only to be dived bombed by angry gulls at the piers end..... Michael from Wuppertal, GermanyStunning view! I think next time I have to visit Whitby! 17 Oct 2007 4:48pm @Michael: Its a fantastic town, one of my favorites....and the abbey is stunning, and it really does convey that Dracula atmosphere from Bram Stokers gothic novel in some weathers and light. Claudio from Porto, Portugalexcellent composition in one side all is calm in the other the rage as taken over and all of this under a great sky. fantastic 18 Oct 2007 12:26am |
