Last Shots from 'The Barn'

Posted by Richard Irwin (Belper, United Kingdom) on 14 November 2007 in Sport & Recreation.

This image is from the recent 'Flame & Thunder' event at Santa Pod in England. The shot was taken from an area called 'The Barn', which is sadly being removed after this event, on the order of the Health & Safety people from the local council. The Barn has been there since racing started at Santa-Pod in 1966, and no one has ever been injured standing in it, behind the race cars......hey but thats the nature of the crazy cosetted nanny state that the UK is becoming.

This shot was taken with my just returned Canon G7 compact, which was back from its sensor cleaning (this was the second time dust got into what is supposed to be a sealed compact camera).

There was racing all day, but it was mainly exhibition stuff, with 260mph jet cars, an even faster rocket bike, wheelie's from firetrucks and bikes, and some half passes from top fuel dragsters and the showtime funny car. All in all, a fun day, but sad to think that these are the last shots I'll get from this angle.
