Creswell Crags lies on the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Ancient people occupied the caves for 45,000 years, and for much of that time they competed with hyenas and cave bears for occupancy of the land. We don't have hyenas here today, but their bones, and the bones of their prey are often uncovered in the caves at Creswell, along with ancient cave paintings dating back 15000 years.

Truly FANTASTIC image. Certainly reminds me of the tough and intriguing lives of our hunter-gatherer ancestors! Thanks too for sharing the info about Creswell Crags so close to us here in Britain! It’s especially thrilling for me as I’m fascinated by all things to do with anthropology, probably partly because of a good friend of ours, a trained anthropologist and Baptist minister in Oxfordshire, one of the kindest and most knowledgeable men we know!!
