Monsal Head Railway ViaductPosted by Richard Irwin (Belper, United Kingdom) on 18 July 2008 in Landscape & Rural. The Wye valley at Monsal Head is famous for both its landscape and for the railway line which was cut through here to open in 1863. Interestingly, when the railway was built here, it caused outrage. as many felt it spoiled the beautiful landscape. It's funny, but today, the old railway line is an historical attraction all of its own, and having closed in 1968, it is now preserved as a cycle route and walkway for nature lovers. I have pre-posted all this week as I'm on my summer vacation, camping and Kayaking in Norfork. I'll catch up with AM3 when I'm back.
