Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaHoly WOW, is it any wonder I can't stay away, spectacular image Richard! Even the bokeh is extraordinary...yeah I'm back :) 18 Sep 2008 8:50am @Lorraine: Hoooraaayyyy...The best news today; you know thats really made my day, as I was missing you. DOF really brings softness to your picture... 18 Sep 2008 11:29am @zOOm: Thanks, for me this photo was a bit of luck, it landed right in front of me. MJ from Delaware, United Statesbeautiful... just beautiful... great colors and great close up 18 Sep 2008 11:48am Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaSUPERB Michael, I have never seen colours like this in a butterfly here so it is a joy to see and I am in absolute amazement, wonderful image, thank you! 18 Sep 2008 11:50am @Kylie Greenan: Thanks Kylie, these are quite common in the UK, as the catterpillers feed on common nettles. They are quite big butterflies, but I have never found them easy to photograph, as they never sit still. Francesc B. from région parisienne, FranceExcellent macro... with fantastic and vivid colors... 18 Sep 2008 12:12pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomSpectacular image...! I've rarely seen a butterfly shot this good with superb colors too. 18 Sep 2008 12:13pm @Observing: I think it was more luck than judgement on my part, as it landed right in front of me dead close, and I reckon there must have been an August/September brood this year, as its wings still look colourful and not tatty. I did try to chase some others, but I couldn't get close enough to fire off the shutter. willow from Chelsea, United StatesIncredible!!! I've never seen this butterfly before - it is amazing! Nice shot! 18 Sep 2008 12:31pm @willow: Thankyou. Its one of our bigger native species here in the UK, and has a very graceful, powerful flight. Iv'e never found them easy to get close to, but for once I was lightning fast at dropping to the heather when I saw it land right in front of me. I only got this one lucky shot, as it took off straight away. Mary from Aberdeenshire, United KingdomFantastic macro shot, lovely vibrant colours. 18 Sep 2008 7:10pm dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United StatesGORGEOUS!! It's a gorgeous creature, and you do it justice!!! A wonderful presentation, you must be quite adept. Do you think the blue parts are a defense mechanism ... to scare off predators? 23 Sep 2008 7:00am |
