Chance Encounter

This was just a lucky shot, as this owl was on a branch a few meters away from me whilst out for a night walk earlier this year.
We were out looking for the elusive Pine Martin, which is so rare in this (secret) location that there are just a handful of sightings each year. I didn't see a Pine Martin, but encountered this lovely Tawny Owl walking back home. Unfortunately, my proper flashgun was in my camera bag, so this shot came from that weedy (rubbish) flash on the top of my Nikon D70, but it still seems to have just enough illumination.
