zOOm from Paris, FranceWhat a lovely sculpture, wood seems so soft... lovely shape and nice b&w picture. 17 Jan 2009 6:48am GJC from Kyoto, JapanI like the textural quality of this image, and the light is fine as well. 17 Jan 2009 8:24am Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesLooks as though it was shot into the sun. Expertly done, I love the background! 17 Jan 2009 9:41am @Chris Parr: Thanks Chris. The sky behind the shot was still filled with light, however the January sun had already set which meant it was a tricky slow exposure handheld (about 1/8 second), as I exposed for the wood, which was fairly dark. I had my doubts I would get anything other than a blur, and although the image is a bit soft, after scanning the neg, I was surprised to find I must have had a steady-ish hand that day. Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, FranceA beautiful statue, and a very nice development… 17 Jan 2009 11:48am MJ from Delaware, United StatesI also love the smooth texture and the lines... Nicely done 17 Jan 2009 2:05pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomIt's a unique piece, very distinct, and nicely recorded. 17 Jan 2009 7:19pm martie from US, United StatesThat is an amazing sculpture! Beautiful photography work as well. 18 Jan 2009 4:06am grant from kansas city, United Statesa beautiful sculpture and a very fine photo. 1/8 sec. hand held shot? i'm impressed by that also. 18 Jan 2009 4:57am Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesI'm wondering if the reason you are using the Ilford film is because you are better able to capture and control the shadow detail? This is excellent! 18 Jan 2009 12:30pm @Craig: Thanks Craig. I love digital for its speed and ability and colour, but just can't seem to work good B&W images from it, so yes, I'm choosing to use B&W film solely for its incredible tonal range, in both the highlights and shadows. This shot would not have worked with my digital SLR, I think the range of tones is just too great. Looking at 2nd hand camera prices, there's some very cheap 35mm pro film gear around, so it made sense to buy one just for B&W film. |
