Some people asked to see the whole sculpture, so here it is.
It is called Seer (Alice II) and was created by Kiki Smith
I much prefer the other two images I posted, as I found the smooth and rough details of the sculpture really compelling subject matter in the bright sunlight of the day, but here is a look at the work of art itself. Its currently on show at Chatsworth House in England, and is part of a Sotheby's 'sale'.
In all these images, I used a Canon G7, hence the image noise you get with the tiny sensors in these compacts (look at the sky to see the noise). I exposed the image to the sculpture, which makes the background very dark in the original. To counter this extreme range of contrast in the image, I have had to 'extract' the sculpture in Photoshop into a new layer, and then use some complicated curves to match the exposures between it and the background.
Anyway, for some reason, the sculpture now appears to hover above the water....I can't remember thinking this at the time I took it (too busy admiring the sculpture itself).
